Der Begründer Dr. K und die Anfänge
Dr. K alias Mag. Dr. Achim Kirste ist 1967 in Vilshofen/Deutschland geboren. Erst relativ spät – im Alter von 15 Jahren – war bedingt durch technische Fortschritte in der Entwicklung elektronischer Heimorgeln sein Interesse für das aktive Musizieren und die elektronische Musikproduktion geweckt worden. Alles begann zunächst mit dem autodidaktischen Erlernen musikalischer Grundkenntnisse auf einem Anfängermodell der Firma Solton. Ein Sinclair ZX81, ein alter Schwarz/Weiß-Fernseher sowie ein analoges Kompaktkassettenaufnahmegerät bildeten 1984 dann den Einstieg in die Computerwelt. Die Programmierversuche mit BASIC und Assembler führten zur Entwicklung eigener Programme zur Speicherung musikalischer Klangparameter des ersten selbst erworbenen monophonen JEN SX-1000 Analogsynthesizers aus italienischer Produktion. Die Bekanntschaft mit dem legendären Apple II c-Computer sowie den ersten leistungsstarken IBM-Bürorechnern führten zur Erweiterung und Verfeinerung von Bedienungs-und Programmierkenntnissen. Startschuß für die experimentelle Klangprogrammierung war schließlich 1990 der Kauf eines Atari MegaST 4 PCs mit MIDI-Schnittstelle und dem bekannten Cubase-Sequenzerprogramm von Steinberg. Der Yamaha DX100-Synthesizer, der KORG Poly 800 II sowie der legendäre KORG M1, der damals beim Erscheinen für Furore sorgte und in zahlreichen internationalen Filmproduktionen eingesetzt worden war, bildeten damals das Equipment, wobei zunächst eher Klangexperimente und die Produktion von Klangcollagen im Vordergrund standen. Die eigentliche sequentielle und kompositorische Arbeit mit neuen Computersystemen, hochwertigen Soundkarten aus der Schmiede von Creative Labs, dem mächtigen S90-Masterkeyboard und Synthesizer von Yamaha sowie div. Klangeditoren begann erst ab dem Jahr 2000.

Komponist, Produzent und Klangtüftler...

Heute bewegt sich die Klangproduktion bei Dr. K ausschließlich im virtuellen Raum der Software-Synthesizer und Klangmodule von Camel Audio, Native Instruments und Heavyocity - gesteuert durch das NI-Komplete Kontrol Masterkeyboard S88 Mk2. Da Dr. K im Rahmen seines späteren Musikstudiums über das Thema Filmmusik promovierte, nimmt ihn dieses Thema seit dem gefangen. Seine Tracks sind seriell-sequentiell, druckvoll, äußerst rhythmisch und dank der innovativen Klangmodule von Heavyocity stets kinematographisch und immer wieder überraschend – Themen nichtexistenter Film- und Fernsehproduktionen. Eines sind die Soundtracks von Dr. K sicherlich nicht – gewöhnlich!

Dr. K alias Mag. Dr. Achim Kirste 1967 was born in Vilshofen/Germany. Relatively late — at the age of 15 – he started to be interested in active music and electronic music production because of technical advances in the development of electronic organs. Everything began with the autodidactic learning of musical basics on a beginners model of the company Solton. A Sinclair ZX81, an old black & white TV, as well as an analog compact cassette recorder in 1984 then formed the entry into the computer world. Experimenting with BASIC and Assembler led to the development of his own programs for storing musical sound parameters of the first self purchased monophonic JEN SX-1000 analog synthesizer from Italian production. The acquaintance with the legendary Apple II c computer, as well as the first high-performance IBM office computers led to the expansion and refinement of operating and programming skills. Kick-off for the experimental sound programming was the purchase of an Atari MegaST 4 PC with MIDI Interface with the well known Steinberg Cubase Sequenceer program finally in 1990. The Yamaha DX100 Synthesizer, the KORG Poly 800 II, as well as the legendary KORG M1, which at the time was a sensation and had been used in numerous international film productions, formed the equipment, which was initially used for sound experiments and the production of sound collages. The actual sequential and compositional work with new computer systems, high-quality sound cards from the forging of Creative Labs, the mighty S90 Master Keyboard and Synthesizer by Yamaha and sound editors, began only in 2000.

Today the sound production of Dr. K moves only in the virtual space of software synthesizers and sound modules by Camel Audio, Native Instruments and Heavyocity - controlled by the NI Masterkeyboard Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk2. As Dr. K graduated during his later music studies on the topic of Film Music this theme captures him. His tracks are serial sequential, punchy, extremely rhythmic, and thanks to the innovative sound modules from Heavyocity always cinematographic and always surprising - themes of non existent film and television productions. The soundtracks of Dr. K are one thing for certain – unusual!
